The first thing that you will do when you begin playing at Illusions is create a character. You can connect to illusions at tibernas.tzo.com port 9100.
And now, what are your Illusions? – When you see this message it is asking for you to put in your character name.
The name of your character is one of the most important decisions in the creation of your character and your role.
Illusions of the Mind is a fantasy role playing MUD, and therefore you are expected to have a name which conveys
the feeling of a fantasy theme. If you are having trouble coming up with a name, there is a name generator on the
IOTM website (www.tibernas.com) or there are several other fantasy name generators availible on the internet. Names
choosen from these generators are almost always suitable. The following rules designate inappropriate names for
characters here at Illuisons of the Mind:
- We prohibit names that explicitly or implicitly refer to or sound like: Profanity, sex, race, religion, drugs or alcohol. (Ex: Hell, White boy, Nacreeb, Jehova)
- Nonsense, gibbererish, or names less than three letters in length. (Ex: Moneybags, Lkhj, Zy)
- Famous individuals, games, movies, TV or book characters without an roleplaying orientation (Ex: Clinton, Scarlet, Pip, Scoobydoo)
- References to past or present immortals, names which cause animosity. (Ex: Sart, Creator, Aldereisaslave, Hitler, Nixon)
- If translated into English, phonetic soundings, or spelled backwards: (EX: Pogie, Zecks, Rellik, Aloc, Nacreeb)
After you have selected your character name. You will be asked if you want to continue with creation. Type Y for yes or N to start over again with a new name.
Give me a password for (name): – When you see this prompt you will be selecting a password for your character.
The PASSWORD command is protected against being snooped or logged.
PASSWORDS are encrypted, an imm or imp can not tell you what your password is. PASSWORDS need to be easy to remember but not easy to guess. Please do not use your real-life name, your characters name, girl/boy friends name, etc. A good password is a mixture
of both letters and numbers.
Next you will select your race, remember that whatever race you select you are expected to roleplay that race. Each race has different stats. You can type “help racestat” to see them during creation and also when you are in the game.
The following races are available on IOM:
————————————
1) Human
2) Elf
3) Dwarf
4) Half-ogre
5) Half-elf
6) Orc
7) Cresnar
8 ) Serdaen
h) Race help (Please take the time to review!!)
Simply select the number associated with the race that you wish to use. You can type “help human”, “help elf”, etc. for more information if you need it. As well as h or help racestats.
Next you will select what gender your character is. All characters must be either male or female when you are creating. If you have a special roleplay that requires your character to be an “it’ you can petition the immortals for a sex change operation.
All characters on Illusions of the Mind have a specific gender and, they roleplay that gender throughout the characters existance. At
times you will find that the person behindthe character is not the same gender as the character itself.
Please select the gender you will use:.
————————————
1) Male
2) Female
All you do is pick 1 or 2 based on your preference.
Selecting which class you will be will determine what skills and spells are available to you. You will also be expected to roleplay that class as part of your character.
A character’s caste determines the skills and spells that are available to that character. Choose an appropriate race for the CASTE you will play!
CON determines HP gains,WIS/INT determines mana gains DEX determines moves and WIS determines number of practices
IMPORTANT: Practices can be converted to trains.Trains can be converted to the following: HP/MANA/DEX CP’s (Lowers your cost to level) Or use to add groups(spells/skills) you are messing.
The following castes are available on Illusions of the Mind:
————————————
1) Mage
2) Cleric
3) Thief
4) Barbarian
5) Druid
6) Paladin
7) Bard
8 ) Necromancer
9) Merchant
h) Caste Help
Select the number of the class you would like to play. Remember that the race of your character determines your base stats so there are better race/class combinations than others. For help you can type help mage, help cleric, etc. or just type h.
Next you will select the alignment of your character. Currently alignment is not static, it will change based on what mobiles you kill. There are certain class restrictions as well as society restrictions. A necromancer must be evil to do their spells and a paladin must be good to do theirs.
Each character is of a certain alignment, based on their alignment theyare restricted from being certain castes, joining certain societies, and from using certain spells.
The available alignments are:
————————————
1) (G)ood – Cannot be Dark Mist.
2) (N)eutral – Cannot be Sage, Aevylain or Blue Rose
3) (E)vil – Cannot be Sage, Aevylain or Blue Rose.
4) Society help
Which alignment would you like to choose 1,2 or 3 (4 for society help)?
Select the number of the alignment you wish to have or 4 to see more help on societies.
Next you will decide if you want to customize your character or just start with basics. Basics for each class are different. A basic build will make it difficult to level on your own, you will have less skills and spells to start with and you will need the help of others to level. A customized build will cost more experience per level but will give you more skills and spells to use during leveling. Please review our help on Adventure Points under the help tag for more information on adding skills and spells at level 60.
Do you wish to build a character or log on to check the world out? Please choose (Y)es to build a character (If you choose No, you will have to recreate to play) or (N)o to log on and check Illusions of the Mind out.
Just select y or n to continue.
If you select to build your character you will go to a screen that will show you a list of possible groups, spells, and skills that you can add to your character. You must select over 50 creation points to exit this build area.
Next you will pick your weapon choice to begin with. You will be able to use more weapons as you go along this selection will just give you your first weapon in the game.
Please pick a weapon from the following choices:
sword mace dagger axe spear flail whip polearm staff
Your choice?
Type in your weapon choice and hit enter.
You have now successfully created a character on Illusions of the Mind. Read the next help labeled “Character Setup” to see how to setup your character and explaining basic functions.
